Captain Dan Crookes, with over 20 years of experience hauling cargo in the San Juans, skippers the 98 foot modified landing craft, San Juan Enterprise.

Twin 425 hp diesel engines aboard the SJE make it one of the fastest barges serving the San Juans, and translate directly to shorter run times and customer savings.

The barge is fitted with a deck crane to handle difficult load/unload operations.

Meet The Captain

Hi,

I'm Dan Crookes, Skipper and a founding partner of San Juan Marine Freight. I'm pictured here in front of the MV San Juan Enterprise, our 98' converted landing craft, based in Anacortes, Washington and serving the San Juan Islands and greater Puget Sound.

I have over 20 years as a freight skipper in the San Juans. The San Juan Enterprise is my newest command and the largest.

The SJE is capable of hauling up to 75 tons and specializes in cargoes such as propane and wet concrete which can't be accomodated on public ferries, or smaller vessels. Because the SJE is equipped with a front loading ramp, we have access to beaches and islands not served by the Washington state ferry system. Your schedule is our schedule.

The company's M/V San Juan Enterprise is a 98' cargo landing craft, available for hire. Capt. Dan Crookes has over 20 yrs as a skipper hauling freight in the San Juan Islands and Puget Sound. One of the best-known skippers in the San Juans, Dan has a well-deserved reputation as an expert freighter, captain, and solid businessman.

A typical work week might consist of jobs as varied as freighting a propane tanker to Orcas, a round trip with a track hoe and dump truck to support beach erosion repair on Decateur, two semi trailers of fish food for the salmon farms off Deception pass, and two days spent as a filming platform for a Hollywood movie crew.
